Mars Brooch - White Gold, Diamonds
Divine progenitor of the Roman people as the father of Romulus, the founder of Rome, and Remus, born to the legendary first vestal virgin Rhea Silvia, Mars was not only the god of war for the city but also the protector of its borders and guarantor of its prosperity.
In fact, as the son of Jupiter, he brought the spring rains that were essential for the fertility of the fields, and his appearance marked the return of spring for the Romans in the month that still bears his name, March.
As the founding god of Roman civilisation, Mars is the inspiration for this 18-carat white gold brooch decorated with 36 natural brilliant-cut white diamonds, whose square shape refers to the first pomerium, or sacred area and boundary with four corners, of the new city laid out, according to literary sources, by Romulus and called “Roma quadrata”.
